What are the health benefits of Brazil nuts?

Registered dietitian Natalie Allen shares the science of why this nut is good for you.

June 12, 2025 by Strategic Communication

Brazil nuts are trending on TikTok and for good reason. These nuts are a natural powerhouse of selenium, a trace mineral that your body needs to stay healthy.

Registered dietitian Natalie Allen shares in a recent Verywell Health article that most adults need 55 micrograms of selenium daily. One Brazil nut can contain up to 91 micrograms. Just one or two nuts can help regulate your thyroid, reduce inflammation and support heart health.

Allen is also a clinical associate professor of nutrition and dietetics in the School of Health Sciences at Missouri State University.
