Missouri State University President Richard B. Williams received a positive evaluation from the Board of Governors following his first year in office. The board recognized his successful completion of all four goals established at the beginning of his tenure.
During his inaugural year, Williams focused on four key objectives. He executed the presidential transition plan, which included conducting a comprehensive assessment of campus operations and establishing meaningful connections within the Springfield community.
“President Williams has demonstrated exceptional leadership in his first year,” said Board Chair Tim Francka. “His systematic approach to understanding our institution and community has laid a strong foundation for Missouri State’s future.”
Under Williams’ leadership, the university developed a comprehensive five-year strategic plan that will guide institutional priorities and growth. He also achieved operational excellence by defining core values and principles for the administrative team while successfully filling critical leadership positions.
Additionally, Williams oversaw Missouri State’s transition to Conference USA, marking a significant milestone in the university’s athletic program development.
He will receive a $600 salary increase, consistent with the amount given to all full-time university employees this year. He also received a $50,000 deferred compensation incentive bonus as outlined in his original contract.
Williams announced plans to use the net pay of his bonus to create an endowed scholarship for Missouri State students.
“This first year has been about listening, learning and laying groundwork,” Williams said. “I’m grateful for the support of our Board of Governors, faculty, staff and the Springfield community as we work together to advance Missouri State University’s mission.”
The Board of Governors expressed confidence in Williams’ leadership and vision for the university’s continued advancement. Williams’ contract extends through June 30, 2029.
