The so-called silver tsunami – or the wave of baby boomers aging into retirement status –caused many health care professions to shift business strategies or increase manpower. One of the most impacted health care professions was pharmacy. According to Paul Gubbins, UMKC School of Pharmacy at Missouri State University, students in the pharmacy program need to be prepared for a profession that may look quite different by the time they don their white lab coat and enter the workforce.

“I think there are opportunities out there for pharmacists, especially with health care reform, that don’t exist today that they may be creating for themselves,” Gubbins said.

The UMKC School of Pharmacy at Missouri State University will host an official ribbon cutting on the fourth floor of Brick City on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.

This is the first semester of the program, and each fall the program will enroll 30 new students.
