After trapping nearly 35,000 mosquitoes in Missouri over the last three years, Dr. David Claborn has the itch to share a few findings.

Claborn, director of the public health program at Missouri State, says the Yellow Fever mosquito (the primary transmitter of Zika) was not found. Thirty-one other species were identified. The Asian Tiger mosquito concerns Claborn the most since it has the ability to transmit other diseases. It was located in every county his team studied.

This is the third and final year of the study as part of a contract from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).

Results from this research project is passed on to DHSS who, in turn, shares it with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
