Asian American student group takes root on campus

The Asian American Student Alliance aims to celebrate its culture through connection at Missouri State.

April 29, 2025 by Strategic Communication

This Thursday is the start of Asian American Pacific Islander month in America. Celebrated throughout May, the heritage month recognizes the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to our national fabric.

At Missouri State University, the Asian American Student Alliance was formed last year when students saw a need.

AASA President Maia Cheong and group treasurer Shayla Frost say the group has been active on campus this past year, facilitating events with other student organizations and helping raise cultural competence campuswide.

To learn more, follow the alliance on Instagram at @AASAMoState. The group meets Mondays at 5 p.m. in Plaster Student Union.
