Missouri State offers new RNFA certificate

Registration deadline is Oct. 1.

September 17, 2018 by Strategic Communication

For nurses, the registered nurse first assist (RNFA) credential opens doors.

Starting this November, Missouri State University will offer the registered nurse first assist (RNFA) graduate certificate. The RNFA program features advanced training and skills for registered nurses or advanced-practice registered nurses, preparing them to assist in surgery.

The one-year program is designed for the working nurse. Course work is primarily online but requires two weekend intensives. Students will work with faculty, an approved surgeon and other members of a health care team during the program.

“As the population continues to age, the demand for nurses is so great,” said Cindi Aurentz, program coordinator. “Missouri State is hoping to bridge that gap by preparing nurses who have an expanded scope of practice in the surgical setting.”

The course work and intensives will prepare students to take national exams and become a certified RNFA. On average, those who earn this designation typically see income increases of more than 10 percent.

Applications will be accepted through Oct. 1. The first class begins in November.
