Department head signs grant with Evangel

Monday, September 9, 2013

Dr. Tona Hetzler, head of the sports medicine and athletic training department at Missouri State University, signed a contract with Evangel University that will allow students to gain professional experience in the field of athletic training.

The assistantship will allow two students who are working toward their Master of Science in Athletic Training to work as trainers for Evangel University’s sports teams. This will give the university two additional staff members and give students real-world, hands on experience that will allow them to put concepts from class into practice.

“The students are already certified personal trainers, but this experience is a great way for them to gain the experience employers are looking for,” said Hetzler. “Not only that, but the assistantship pays a stipend amount for the student’s tuition and also provides a fee waiver.”

This is the first year for the funding with Evangel, and the contract is currently ongoing.
