Addressing the teacher shortage through recruitment and retention

With state funding, Missouri State University is working to ease Missouri’s teacher shortage.

Dr. Denise Cunningham, professor in the College of Education and co-director of the Center for Rural Education at Missouri State University, shares about a grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) that will address the teacher and administrator shortage in Missouri schools.

Students who spend meaningful time on a college campus are more likely to enroll. The grant will support efforts to recruit future educators by bringing high school students to campus and introducing them to the teaching profession.
