Ozarks Public Broadcasting is proud to announce that NPR reporter and “Life Kit” host Marielle Segarra will be a featured speaker at Missouri State University’s 2026 Public Affairs Conference on Oct. 1.

Segarra’s presentation will explore the conference theme, “The We Factor: Building Connections That Matter.” The event is free and open to the public.

“We’re delighted to welcome Marielle Segarra to this year’s Public Affairs Conference,” said General Manger Rachel Knight. “Through her reporting and her work as host of ‘Life Kit,’ Marielle helps people better understand themselves, their communities and the world around them. Her thoughtful approach to storytelling reflects the spirit of this year’s conference theme.”

Segarra joined NPR from Marketplace, where she helped people understand how the ins and outs of the economy are relevant to their lives. Over the years, she reported stories on Amazon’s counterfeit problem, the lack of paid family leave in the U.S., the origin story of the song of the summer, the role of makeup during a pandemic and the jarring experience of returning to the office in August 2020.

As host of the award-winning podcast and radio program “Life Kit,” Segarra shares practical, trustworthy and nonjudgmental guidance to help listeners navigate everyday challenges. Her work has explored topics ranging from mental health and personal finance to refugee policy, relationships and sustainability.

“As the Ozarks’ source for NPR news, KSMU is committed to creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue and lifelong learning,” Knight added. “Marielle’s work empowers people with practical knowledge while fostering understanding and connection across different experiences and perspectives. We’re proud to bring her to Southwest Missouri and make this conversation accessible to our entire community.”

Segarra will speak from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Plaster Student Union Theater. Following her presentation, she will participate in an audience Q&A session.
