Missouri State University dedicated two agriculture facilities March 7 as part of its Darr Difference Day, underscoring the university’s continued investment in the future of agriculture in Missouri.
The Small Animal Education Center and the Ag Innovation Hub were formally dedicated during the morning ceremony at the Darr Agricultural Center. The projects reflect Missouri State’s commitment to expanding hands-on learning opportunities and strengthening partnerships in one of the state’s most vital industries.
“Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Missouri’s economy,” said Dr. Melissa Bledsoe, dean of the William H. Darr College of Agriculture. “Through strategic investments in facilities, experiential learning and industry collaboration, the Darr College of Agriculture is preparing students to lead and innovate in a rapidly evolving field.”
Both projects were made possible through private gifts and state funding.
Small Animal Education Center
Designed to meet growing enrollment and workforce demand in animal-related fields, the center includes modern teaching laboratories, animal holding and care areas, grooming and washing stations, flexible classroom space and dedicated areas for hands-on instruction in small animal management and health.
The center opened for student use in fall 2023, giving students expanded opportunities to gain practical experience in a purpose-built learning environment. The facility supports coursework in companion animal care, nutrition, physiology and pre-veterinary preparation.
Funding for the 14,000-square-foot space was part of the Onward, Upward Campaign for Missouri State. This gift money also supported the construction of the new AgAcademy for Springfield Public Schools.
Ag Innovation Hub
This hub enhances collaboration among students, faculty and industry partners in a flexible space that supports applied research, student projects and industry engagement.
The facility opened to students in fall 2025 and serves as a focal point for innovation, entrepreneurship and community partnership within the college.
Darr Difference Day
The dedications were part of Darr Difference Day, a day of service honoring the legacy of William H. Darr. The event brings together students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members to complete service projects that enhance the Darr Agricultural Center.
Darr Difference Day reflects the college’s strong culture of engagement and its close ties to the agricultural community. Participants spent the morning supporting projects across the center, reinforcing the hands-on spirit that defines the college.
