Blending research, education and flavor in Mountain Grove

How the Fruit Experiment Station turns research into wines and spirits.

In Mountain Grove, Missouri State University’s Fruit Experiment Station is home to the state’s only licensed commercial winery and distillery operating within a public university.

Founded in 1899, the station began as a resource for fruit growers and now focuses on developing grape varieties suited for Missouri’s climate. On-site coordinator Jennifer Morgenthaler and cellar technician Jeremy Emery work together to turn research into wines and spirits.

Visitors can attend workshops, tour the facility and sample products, all while learning how science shapes Missouri’s wine industry.
