Surround yourself in indigenous culture through educational and social events during Native and Indigenous Heritage Month on the Missouri State University campus. 

The events will run Nov. 5-Dec. 5. They will help the campus community and general public gain a better understanding of native and indigenous history, traditions and customs. 

“It’s important to celebrate the rich cultures and diverse perspectives of our nation’s first people,” said Nina Barudzic, MSU director of multicultural programs. “By having unique and authentic programming, we’re honoring the Native and Indigenous people and helping our campus community learn more about essential pieces of history.”

All events are free and a few are open to the public: 

Nov. 5 

Powwow, 2 p.m., Greenwood Laboratory School 

Enjoy dances, song and food related to the Native American culture. This event is a collaboration with the American Indian Center in Springfield. 

Nov. 14 

Keynote Speaker, 5 p.m., Mary Jean Price Multicultural Resource Center 

Learn about the history of local stories and the influence of oral traditions from a guest speaker. 

Nov. 16 

Native American Beadwork, 4 p.m., Mary Jean Price Multicultural Resource Center 

Learn how to make beaded jewelry. Open only to current students. 

Nov. 29 

Handgame, 7 p.m., Plaster Student Union 1st floor 

Take part in a traditional Native American Handgame. Open only to current students.  

Dec. 5 

DiversiTEA time: Native American Tea-Time, 3 p.m., Mary Jean Price Multicultural Resource Center 

Join in a tea party celebration. Open only to current students
