Beginning in the fall semester, students will have even more access to free money thanks to an expansion of scholarships at Missouri State University.
“We developed these latest scholarship updates to reward ambition and academic excellence,” said Rob Moore, director of financial aid at Missouri State. “We want all students to have access to higher education and see that Missouri State is making moves to put it in reach.”
Scholarships for first-time, new college students
The dual credit program for current high school students has continued to grow at Missouri State, even as other categories of enrollment have dipped.
To encourage dual credit students to make Missouri State their university of choice, the university has revised the criteria of the Missouri State Advantage Scholarship.
This $1,000 scholarship can be:
- Awarded to a student who earned 9 or more hours through MSU dual credit and maintained at least a 3.25 grade point average.
- Renewed three times, for a total of four years and $4,000 value.
Previously, this scholarship was only available for one year and non-renewable.

Scholarships for transfer students
Each year, thousands of students transfer to Missouri State to complete their degrees. To recognize the academic achievements of these students, the university added to its current set of transfer student specific scholarships by developing the Transfer Honors Scholarship.
This $3,500 scholarship requires admission into the MSU Honors College and:
- An associate’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher at the previous institution, OR
- At least 24 transferable credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 3.65 or higher at the previous institution.
Students may renew this scholarship for two years if they meet the renewal criteria.

Starting in fall 2021, the university made a significant change to eligibility requirements for transfer scholarships. Now, students can access these scholarships whether they are transferring from a two- or four-year institution.
Previously these opportunities were only available for students moving from a two-year college or university.
Another scholarship for transfer students, the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, increased to a $1,000 value.
Making higher education possible for more students
The A+ Recognition Scholarship, which is available for students in the A+ program in high school, can now be combined with other institutional scholarships. This change greatly increases the value of the A+ Recognition Scholarship for eligible students.
In addition, the university revised scholarship eligibility policies to be more lenient.
Missouri State will now review freshman scholarship eligibility for students who previously wouldn’t have qualified. This includes students who have:
- Taken a gap year.
- Earned fewer than 24 credit hours of post-high school college credit when applying for admission.
