Take part in celebrating Indigenous Heritage Month this November

Join Missouri State University in celebrating Indigenous Heritage Month throughout November.

The office of multicultural programs will host a variety of educational and social events through Nov. 23. They offer an opportunity to learn more about the cultures, traditions, histories and contributions of Native people.

Event highlights

The lineup of events will include:

Nov. 5

Art Walk: Tour of the Globe, 5 p.m., Jim D. Morris Center

Join international programs at the event to learn about indigenous cultures around the globe.

Nov. 9

Blood What?, 5:30 p.m., Plaster Student Union 315

Dr. William Meadows, professor of anthropology and Native American studies  at Missouri State, will  discuss the “Blood Quantum” policy and the influence it has on indigenous people and politics.

Nov. 12

Stories and Tales, 5:30 p.m., Plaster Student Union 315

Learn about the history of local stories and the influence of oral traditions.

Nov. 16

U.S. Politics: Indigenous, 5:30 p.m., Plaster Student Union 315

This U.S. Politics series will focus on indigenous sovereignty, federal involvement and more.

Nov. 18

Handgame Tournament, 5:30 p.m., Plaster Student Union Lounge

Join Meadows and the Haskell Nations team in this guessing game.

Nov. 23

Indigenous Heritage Month Social, 5:30 p.m., Plaster Student Union 4th Floor Union Club

The end-of-month social is open to indigenous students, faculty, staff and community members. Come and enjoy this gathering.
