MSU celebrates Latinx Heritage Month

Join MSU in celebrating Latinx Heritage Month all throughout September.

Immerse yourself in Latinx culture throughout September by attending events at Missouri State University.  

The office of multicultural programs will host live and virtual events Sept. 3-28.

“Latinx Heritage Month is important here at Missouri State because we are a place that strives to support and celebrate the many different cultures on campus represented in our student body, staff and faculty,” said Dr. Rabekah Stewart, assistant vice president of student affairs. 

“It is important for all of the university community to see themselves at Missouri State. These heritage months aim to build connection while broadly increasing cultural competence and awareness.” 

List of events 

This year’s events will take place on campus and via Zoom to allow for social distancing. Registration is required for virtual events. All events are free and open to the public.  

Sept. 3

Latin Rhythm: Learn some Latin dances with instructors from Grupo Latinoamericano, 6 p.m., Plaster Student Union (PSU) Theater or Zoom (the link will be live 10 minutes before the event). 

Sept. 7

Latin Fashion: Fashion show and educational panel about traditional and modern Latin fashion, 5:30 p.m., PSU 315 or Zoom (the link will be live 10 minutes before the event). 

Sept. 10

Tamale Time: Learn how to cook tamales with a real chef and make your own, 4:30 p.m., RSVP 

Sept. 14

U.S. Politics: Latinx: A panel about political movements and policies affecting Latin communities, 5:30 p.m., PSU 315 or Zoom (the link will be live 10 minutes before the event). 

Sept. 21

Latin Bears: Learn about the experience of Latinx students at MSU, 5:30 p.m., PSU 315 or Zoom (the link will be live 10 minutes before the event). 

Sept. 23

Carnaval!: Come mix, mingle and dance the night away, 5:30 p.m., PSU 4th Floor Union Club. 

Sept. 28

Latina Sisterhood: A talk about Latina sororal organizations and sisterhood with Sigma Lambda Gamma, 5:30 p.m., PSU or Zoom (the link will be live 10 minutes before the event).
