OPT WORLD Channel to provide at-home learning programs

The programs will aid students and educators during school closures.

As schools in the Ozarks close in response to COVID-19, Ozarks Public Television (OPT) WORLD Channel will provide a daily, at-home learning service for grades 6-12.

Starting April 1, OPT WORLD Channel will offer science, history and English language arts programming every weekday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

“In these challenging times, our mission to provide students with educational resources is more important than ever,” said Rachel Knight, OPT interim general manager. “Along with these WORLD Channel programs, we will continue to provide our 24/7 PBS KIDS service to support pre-K and primary grades. We are committed to utilizing our public media channels to support teachers, students and caregivers.”

PBS LearningMedia

The OPT WORLD Channel programming will be supplemented with resources from PBS LearningMedia.

With help from educators, PBS aligned these resources to curriculum standards in every state and contextualized them for educational use. They include grab-and-go activities, lesson plans, interactive lessons and media that illustrate specific topics across subjects.

How to access OPT WORLD Channel

OPT WORLD Channel is broadcast over the air on 21.4. Viewers will need to rescan their televisions to access this over-the-air channel.

“With WORLD channel available free over the air, these educational programs can reach all families, including those who do not have internet access or computers at home,” said Liz Cheng, general manager of television at WGBH Boston and WORLD Channel. “We are proud to work with public media stations across the country to make this service widely available.”
