Missouri State University consistently aims to educate campus and the surrounding community about world cultures.

This September, multicultural programs will celebrate Latinx Heritage Month. From Sep. 4-26, you can immerse yourself in Latinx culture through events held on campus.

“This is a month to celebrate the richness of the Latinx culture, especially here in the States,” said Yvania Garcia-Pusateri, former executive director of multicultural programs. “Our goal is to spread awareness to students, staff, faculty and the greater community in Springfield.”

Sep. 4

Latinx Heritage Month kick-off: Lotería on the North Mall, 1 p.m., PSU North Mall. Lotería is a traditional Mexican game of chance, similar to bingo. Come join the fun to officially kick off Latinx Heritage Month.

Sep. 21

Carnaval: Latinx Heritage Month banquet, 5 p.m., PSU Grand Ballroom. Experience cultural performances, a fashion show and authentic Latin American food prepared by students and Springfield community members. RSVP required. Admission is $10. Students get in free with BearPass ID.

Sep. 26

Latinx student, faculty and staff networking reception, 5:30 p.m., Davis-Harrington Welcome Center. A chance for Latinx students to connect with other Latinx staff and faculty on campus, as well as community members.
