The crisis in Hong Kong is not the same as Taiwan’s

Asian politics expert Dr. Dennis Hickey explains why.

Protests have been taking place in Hong Kong in recent weeks against a controversial extradition bill cobbled together by Hong Kong authorities with the support of Beijing.

Some analyses of what’s going on have tried to link the Hong Kong experience to Taiwan.

Dr. Dennis Hickey, distinguished professor of political science at Missouri State University, writes in The National Interest why comparing the Hong Kong case to Taiwan’s situation is a bit of a stretch.
