2019 Wall of Fame Honorees

Wall of Fame honors campus legends

Induction ceremony scheduled during Homecoming.

May 16, 2019 by Strategic Communication

After you retire, how will you be remembered? Will it be for your significant contributions to the work environment? For the impact you made on others’ lives?

Former Missouri State University faculty and staff members who have done just that can be immortalized on the Wall of Fame.

The honorees

The Board of Governors voted today (May 16) to induct six more individuals. The 2019 inductees include Dr. Earle Doman, Neosha Mackey, Virginia Mee, Dr. Linda Pettijohn, Dr. Denny E. Pilant and Burnie Snodgrass.

“These individuals are characterized by their abilities to envision opportunities, embrace change and model kindness and mutual respect,” said President Clif Smart. “Thanks to them, and so many like them, we have improved Missouri State and realized a greater future.”

This group represents 165 years of combined full-time service to Missouri State. A total of 112 individuals have previously been honored on the Wall of Fame.

About their service

Dr. Earle Doman (July 1, 1976 – June 30, 1987 and Feb. 1, 2000 – April 30, 2013) valued collaboration between students and administration, and provided opportunities for every voice to be heard. He gave calm and respectful guidance on many projects while helping students to develop leadership qualities.

Neosha Mackey (Aug. 19, 1985 – June 30, 2012) was a valued resource for library research and provided vision for improving library services. Beyond that, she was devoted to improving university life for international and domestic students. She supported students, cultivated personal relationships and always offered a warm smile.

Virginia Mee (Aug. 14, 1978 – July 31, 2002) had a heart for nontraditional students who were improving their skillsets. She established deep ties to the business community, and through the Management Development Institute, she provided professional development, which helped build greater economic development in Springfield.

Dr. Linda Pettijohn (Aug. 17, 1987 – July 31, 2010) made her mark by preparing students for future business success. Professionalism, negotiation and interview etiquette were key components she instilled in her students. She established a career fair for the College of Business and encouraged students to market themselves.

Dr. Denny E. Pilant (Sept. 1, 1966 – Dec. 31, 2002) inspired students into civil servant work. His high standards challenged students to consider political philosophy and think globally. He was patient, giving and excited to see his students succeed. He had a key role in articulating how the public affairs mission should change Missouri State.

Burnie L. Snodgrass (April 10, 1972 – July 31, 2013) pushed for change. Under his leadership, the Taylor Health and Wellness Center gained accreditation for quality care and later digitized health records. He advocated for the health needs of students and employees, and with student support, brought about the student health fee.

The induction ceremony

The honorees will have their plaques added to the wall outside of the Plaster Student Union Ballroom during a formal ceremony at 4 p.m. Oct. 25, during Homecoming. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
