Dr. Melissa Remley is dedicated to helping her students achieve more than they thought they could.

Remley was recognized for her work on Oct. 3, when she received the national Non-land grant Agriculture and Renewable Resources Universities (NARRU) Distinguished Young Educator Award.

Remley, assistant professor of agriculture, is the first from Missouri State University to receive the title.

“It’s an unbelievable honor. It motivates me to continue my commitment to our students, to keep expectations high and give them the tools to reach those expectations,” Remley said.

Recognition for Darr College of Agriculture

The award isn’t just an achievement for Remley, but for the Darr College of Agriculture as a whole. It was previously given to educators primarily from large universities, almost half going to Texas Tech alone.

“Dr. Remley is an outstanding faculty member in our college,” said Ronald Del Vecchio, dean of the Darr College of Agriculture. “We are so impressed with her commitment to students, and how the students appreciate and respect her.”

Remley gave high praise to the college after receiving the award.

“It’s an atmosphere that supports its faculty and emphasizes the importance of great teaching in a student-centered environment,” Remley said. “It’s an amazing place to teach.”

The award is presented each year to a deserving young teacher affiliated with a NARRU school.

Remley attended the NARRU fall conference in California to accept her award.
