To address this problem, Jokima Hiller, an instructor in the hospitality and restaurant administration department at Missouri State University, published a booklet titled “7 EASY Ways to Show Your Employees YOU Care!”

“After hearing about the recurring concern of lack of employee appreciation, I realized there was a lesson to be learned,” Hiller said. “This booklet is my effort to address this topic for managers who want to find and keep good employees.”

How to retain happy personnel

The 36-page booklet provides step-by-step instructions written specifically for hotel managers, but according to Hiller, the instructions can be applied to any manager who wants to show employee appreciation.

“When interacting with employees, some managers fail to give credit where credit is due,” Hiller said. “In addition, managers who are not present enough fail to encourage employees to work as a team.”

Simple ways to show employee appreciation include smiling and giving employees a warm welcome.

“I hope that this booklet will help managers become better listeners when employees remark that no one cares for them and to be proactive in addressing the importance of showing employees they care,” Hiller said.

Hiller’s booklet can be purchased on Amazon. For more information, contact Hiller at (417) 836-3278.
