October 8, 2014 by Strategic Communication

40 Under 40 tajuanRecently, the TRiO Upward Bound program at Missouri State University received its third year of funding from the United States Department of Education. The grant was in the amount of $250,000.

Upward Bound is an outreach program for first-generation, disabled and low-income students that go toward helping them graduate from Missouri State. Upward Bound is a federally funded cluster of TRiO, a blanket organization that houses all kinds of programs for at-risk students to receive a better education. This funding will allow these students to receive services like academic advising and tutoring, along with financial aid, leadership opportunities and many others.

“We are pleased to offer services that give students a sense of support and hope along with the resources needed to complete post-secondary education,” said TaJuan Wilson, director.
