Google Maps has put geographic information system (GIS) technology on the map. Dr. Jun Luo, associate professor of geography at Missouri State University, has studied, taught and developed GIS apps for years and recently recently developed a GIS for Shamrock Marketing Services, Inc. to use while servicing O’Reilly Auto Parts.
The app and web-based GIS he developed will be utilized by the company’s field agents when they visit any of the O’Reilly Auto Parts locations (more than 4,500) nationwide.
“What I’ve done is make it really easy to store local, critical store information along with a map,” said Luo.
Beginning the relationship
In May 2015, Luo approached by Shamrock Marketing Services, Inc.to design a demo GIS of O’Reilly’s stores in one state. The team liked what Luo developed and set up a grant for him to finish the rest of the stores in the United States.
Moving forward
Luo sees this as a growing technology with a lot of potentials such as in public health, crime study and human to environment interaction.
