Ozarks Public Television (OPT) and Ozarks Regional YMCA will present the 13th annual Seuss Science Day on March 2.
Inspired by the PBS KIDS series, “The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!,” the event is designed to help young children explore reading and STEAM skills – while taking them on Seussian adventures that inspire their curiosity.
Proceeds from Seuss Science Day support children’s educational programming on OPT and the Ozarks Regional YMCA financial assistance fund.
About the event
The event is free and open to the public. Activities will take place at 9 a.m. March 2 at Pat Jones YMCA, 1901 E. Republic Rd., Springfield.
Seuss Science Day will feature:
- Seuss-themed STEAM activities hosted by the YMCA, OPT and more than 17 local businesses and nonprofit agencies.
- Dr. Seuss story times.
- Science experiments on the story time stage.
- Pictures with The Cat in the Hat.
- A Big Rig area, featuring the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
“Seuss Science Day represents OPT’s mission to be of service to our community – a free event that is educational, engaging and provides children with interactive learning experiences,” said Rachel Knight, OPT general manager.
“Not only do kids and families get the opportunity to meet several area nonprofit organizations and businesses, but the outdoor Big Rig area also allows children to meet community helpers, such as law enforcement and other emergency responders in a safe and fun environment that can help them react better during times of crisis.”
Danielle Wise, Ozarks Regional YMCA vice president of development, added, “At the Y, our mission is clear: to create a place where everyone belongs, where self-improvement, healthy habits and new friendships flourish.”
“Seuss Science Day embodies this mission, offering a space where children can explore, learn and grow, all while having a blast. The Pat Jones YMCA is thrilled to once again host this engaging family event for the community.”
