Missouri State University’s department of media, journalism and film (MJF) obtained outstanding placement among four categories in the Broadcast Education Association’s (BEA) first annual school rankings.
MSU received first-place ranking in the scriptwriting category out of more than 300 BEA member institutions worldwide.
“I think our students produce such high-quality work because they get so much hands-on experience,” said Cristina Pippa, director of the dramatic writing and screenwriting programs at MSU.
“We’re honored by the award and so impressed with all our students.”
Category recognition from the BEA
The BEA Festival of Media Arts has been held annually for nearly 20 years. The school rankings are based on the consistency and quality of work that has been submitted to the festival over the past five years.
“Submitting creative projects and winning awards at the festival is a high priority for us every year,” said Dr. Mary Jane Pardue, head of the MJF department at MSU.
“Bringing such significant industry recognition home to our university helps strengthen our reputation. MSU is a top choice for media, journalism and film.”
MSU excelled in these categories:
- 1st in scriptwriting.
- 2nd in audio.
- 3rd overall.
- 4th in film and video.
“This is a testament to how our faculty, staff and students work together,” Pardue said. “Realizing that we are better together than apart is a hallmark of the culture of media, journalism and film. We embrace that philosophy every day with commitment and grace.”
The BEA is an international academic media organization for educators, students and professionals. They support the advancement of electronic media education by showcasing and analyzing content from academic institutions worldwide.
