February 17, 2022 by Strategic Communication

Missouri State University ranks as one of the year’s best schools for earning a master’s degree online by OnlineMastersDegrees.org.

“As enrollment in master’s degree programs expands, it’s important to showcase colleges and universities with a clear focus on flexible learning and affordable tuition,” said Kyle Darland, co-founder of OnlineMastersDegrees.org.

About the ranking

Five of MSU’s online master’s degrees are ranked in the top 10 in the nation. The programs are:

  • Master’s in public administration.
  • Master’s in information technology.
  • Master’s in psychology.
  • Master’s in project management.
  • Master of Arts in Teaching.

Missouri State’s programs rank as some of the best overall in their subject areas. The programs are also noted for their affordability.

“This recognition reflects our commitment to academic quality and student access,” said Dr. Joye Norris, MSU associate provost for access and outreach.

“Online programs are a way to serve students locally and at a distance by providing flexible and affordable educational options.”

How rankings are determined

OnlineMastersDegrees.org analyzed more than 7,700 schools using data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Schools must hold active regional accreditation to qualify. They must also have academic counseling and career placement services available to students.

The data used to determine the ranking includes:

  • Number of online programs in subject area.
  • Number of online students.
  • Online program tuition and fees.
  • Percentage of students offered institutional aid.
  • Amount of institutional aid awarded per student.

“Each student has different professional and academic priorities,” Darland said. “The schools in our rankings offer a range of master’s degree options at an affordable price for students.”
