Missouri State University celebrates women in March with events highlighting women’s history, or HerStory.
The celebration provides an opportunity for the campus and larger community to learn about the rich cultural history and contributions of diverse women.
“Women’s History Month is an occasion for celebrating women’s achievements throughout history, but it is also an occasion for looking multidimensionally at the world that has been built by, supported by, and lived in by women since time immemorial,” said Dr. Shannon Wooden, gender studies expert and professor of English at Missouri State.
The national theme this year from the National Women’s History Alliance is “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced.”
“It is a celebration not only of the centennial of the 19th amendment, but of women’s voices today, speaking for themselves, for those who cannot speak, for the nation and for the planet,” Wooden said.
