There’s a new Missouri State University scholarship for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield’s (BGCS) students.
Students enrolled in the clubs, many from under-resourced families, are eligible for the MSU-Boys & Girls Clubs Scholarship. It’s offered for their first year of undergraduate study and may be renewed for three years.
Missouri State University President Clif Smart said the scholarship supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield’s mission – to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
“We believe this scholarship will open doors of opportunity for deserving students who may not otherwise be able to afford a quality higher education,” Smart added.
Signing ceremony
Representatives from MSU and BGCS will sign a Memorandum of Agreement at 3:30 p.m. May 13 at the BGCS Administration Center, 1410 N. Fremont Ave., Springfield.
Scholarship details
Missouri State will offer two scholarship programs:
- MSU/BGCS Youth of the Year Scholarship valued at $4,000.
- MSU/BGCS Freshman Scholarship valued at $2,000.
Full details of the scholarship, including eligibility criteria, will be available through the BGCS scholarships coordinator and teen directors.
BGCS Chief Executive Officer Brandy Harris said this scholarship will further the clubs’ impact on the kids they serve.
“We are in the business of bridging gaps for kids and Missouri State is an integral part of that mission, especially now,” she added.  When we work together, we are stronger. We’re grateful for this opportunity as we believe, it will truly change lives.”
