Recently, Taiwan elected the Democratic Progressive Party candidate, Tsai Ing-Wen, which Dr. Dennis Hickey says wasn’t much of a surprise. What has captured the attention and caused a bit of a stir is that the legislature will now be governed by the Democratic Progressive Party as well.
In a year where the race to become the president of the United States seems so divisive, Taiwan elected the Democratic Progressive Party candidate, Tsai Ing-wen, as the first woman in the office. Dr. Dennis Hickey has studied the relationship between Taiwan and China for more than 30 years.
Though it may seem United States residents have a heavy tax burden, in actuality it is rather light compared to that of other countries. Dr. Gabriel Ondetti, professor of law at Missouri State University, recently spent a semester-long sabbatical studying the tax burdens of several Latin American countries.
