Students win at the Fashion Group International Competition

Seven Missouri State University students brought home awards from the recent Fashion Group International of Kansas City competition. During this annual event, students attended professional development workshops and competed in multiple categories for scholarship money.

Dr. Gloria Galanes, professor in communication, had an article published in the November-December issue of Communication Studies. The article, "Dialectical Tensions of Small Group Leadership," examines how effective group leaders describe and address groups’ needs to balance opposing processes, such as attending both to task and relational needs.

Edward Pinegar, Jr. and Carol Pinegar of Springfield were selected to receive the 2009 Bronze Bear Award. The Pinegars will be the tenth recipient of the award, which is presented to those who have exhibited “extraordinary achievement and/or outstanding support” for Missouri State.

Donald Clark named director of safety and transportation

Veteran Springfield Police Department commander Donald Clark will be the new director of safety and transportation at Missouri State University. He begins his duties Nov. 16, pending approval of the Missouri State Board of Governors. Clark will succeed Gary Snavely, who recently retired from the post.

Dr. Lifeng Dong, assistant professor of physics and materials science, co-authored an article entitled "DNA-Templated Synthesis of Pt Nanoparticles on Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes," which was published in Nanotechnology. This research was also featured on Nanowerk Spotlight.
