CNAS associate dean receives national teaching recognition

Dr. Pawan Kahol, associate dean for the College of Natural and Applied Science (CNAS) and professor of physics, astronomy and materials science at Missouri State University, was selected as the recipient of the 2009 Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Missouri Professor of the Year. He received the award Nov. 19 in Washington, D. C.

New program focuses on fitness, nutrition to benefit participants

Five Missouri State University students will implement their “Fitness Improvement Training (F.I.T)” project during the Special Olympics Missouri fall games held Nov 20-21. The students developed the program during an eight-week summer internship in Washington, D.C., to offer individuals with intellectual disabilities the information and skill necessary to choose a healthy lifestyle.

New study focuses on religion, political connection

Dr. Brian Calfano, assistant professor of political science, received a contract from Denison University for the "Religious Value Priming and Political Tolerance" project. The award is in the amount of $4,000.

Dr. Neal Lopinot, director of the Center for Archaeological Research, received a work order from Bureau Veritas North America, Inc. for the "CAR-1422 Phase I Intensive Cultural Resources Survey, KCYC Fallbrook Cell Tower, Olathe, KS" project. The award is in the amount of $1,568.51.

Thanksgiving is a holiday stuffed with feasts of great proportion eaten at family gatherings for most Americans; however, with weight-related diseases on the rise, these celebrations now add to a national epidemic. According to Natalie Allen, dietetics instructor in the department of biomedical sciences at Missouri State University, families need to begin new traditions for Thanksgiving that will allow for a longer, healthier life for all involved.
