The popularity of electronic bill pay and email have caused the U.S. Postal Service to formulate a new business plan with fewer processing centers and fewer delivery dates. According to Dr. John Kent, professor of marketing at Missouri State University, they still have competitive advantages over and things to learn from their biggest rivals: UPS and FedEx.

Late stage cancer patients experience a wide range of emotions, and those in search of a coping mechanism often turn to avoidance and distraction, according to Dr. Ann Rost, associate professor of psychology at Missouri State University. Rost, along with a team of researchers from three other universities, recently studied ovarian cancer patients’ reactions to a new psychological intervention, an acceptance and commitment therapy, and compared it to those who were in more traditional therapy.

In December 2011, the St. Louis Cardinals lost Albert Pujols to the Los Angeles Angels, causing many people to wax poetic about the good old days of baseball when it wasn’t all about money. According to Dr. Stephen McIntyre, associate professor of history at Missouri State University, baseball has always been big business.

Gardening is a popular spring and summer pastime. Since the sustainability movement has heightened public awareness of organic foods and sustainable practices, gardening has also grown in popularity. One garden staple is the tomato, and Dr. Clydette Alsup-Egbers, associate professor in the Darr School of Agriculture at Missouri State University, shows how to grow tomatoes upside down.

Sustainability, locally grown foods and health have all become hot topics in recent years. According to Dr. Danae Hudson, associate professor of psychology at Missouri State University, this focus is one contributing factor to a lesser-known syndrome called orthorexia, or a preoccupation or obsession with eating only healthy foods.
