The Missouri State University Ad Team took first place in the P2P: Building Community Trust competition on June 29 in Baltimore, Maryland. This is the fourth consecutive win for the Missouri State Ad Team in a national or international competition sponsored by EdVenture Partners and is one of seven national advertising and branding competitions the team has won in the last nine years.
“Winning a prestigious championship four years in a row is quite an accomplishment,” said Missouri State President Clifton M. Smart III. “I want to add my congratulations to the students on the Ad Team and the team’s adviser, Dr. Melissa Burnett. This achievement is just the most recent example of how College of Business students excel in the classroom, as well as in extracurricular activities.”
About the campaign
The 2016 competition allowed Missouri State Ad Team students to partner with the United States Department of Justice on the development of a campaign to strengthen trust between law enforcement officers and the community. This spring, after months of research — including surveys, focus groups and personal interviews — the team created MeetLEO, a digital platform that humanizes law enforcement officers. With this campaign, the team hopes to show communities that these individuals are more than just the badges they wear: They also have friends, families and hobbies.
“I’ve come to know and appreciate the high level of strategic thinking and execution of the MSU Ad Team over the years,” said Tony Sgro, CEO of EdVenture Partners. “What sets apart MSU is how their solid research sets the compass for a creative, highly integrated campaign that not only addresses all program objectives but multiplies the deliverable by a factor of 10. The icing on the cake is watching Dr. Burnett’s team speak, done with poise, timing, energy and presence all in a tightly coordinated presentation that is simply world class.”
