Melanie Dreyer-Lude, assistant professor of theatre and dance at Missouri State University, is the recipient of a prestigious Fulbright scholarship award to Germany for an academic year.
Dreyer-Lude will be participating in a fellowship with the Fulbright program to introduce the students at Freie Universität Berlin to the American version of applied theater and community engagement.
The mission in Germany
Dreyer-Lude is focusing on establishing an immersive theater project called the Radical Application of Community Engagement, or R.A.C.E., in which she and her students will build an audience-interactive piece that explores race relations in Berlin.
“I expect this research to be particularly relevant, given the challenges Germany has been facing with the recent influx of refugees,” said Dreyer-Lude.
