The Panhellenic Council and Inter-Fraternity Council at Missouri State University were recently given two national awards at the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) conference earlier this month.
The Missouri State Panhellenic Council won programming excellence awards in council management and selfgovernance and judicial affairs. These awards recognize councils with outstanding administration, financial management and standards boards in dealing with fraternal issues.
Every spring the AFLV holds a conference for Inter-Fraternity Councils, Panhellenic Councils, National PanHellenic Councils and Multicultural Greek Councils from across the nation to gather and further expand their knowledge in leading their fraternity and sorority life communities to new heights. AFLV held an awards banquet to recognize the councils that put time into bettering communities.
“These awards serve as an affirmation of the hard work put in by the board and our sorority community,” said Libby Shannon, Panhellenic president. “It also encourages the future growth of our women.”
In addition to those awards, AFLV also awarded the Wayne S. Colvin Award to Brandon Simpson, vice president of membership development for Inter-Fraternity Council. The Wayne S. Colvin Award is given to an outstanding undergraduate student who goes above and beyond his/her duties as a council member.
“It was a really cool moment because all the work that I put into Inter-Fraternity Council for that year was recognized in front of 600 schools around the nation,” said Simpson. “It was a humbling experience for sure.”
