Construction management students from Missouri State University’s department of technology and construction management took top honors at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region Four Competition Oct. 22-25 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Missouri State students competed against teams from 11 schools in the ASC region, which includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
The Missouri State team took first place in the highly competitive Commercial Division. Members of the winning Commercial Team were: Jalynn Heckadon, Jerad Schlorff, Sam Maher, Jeff Goldstein, Daniel Lallathin, Chelsea West and David Joswick as coach.
In an 18-hour period, students had to schedule, estimate, run cost analysis, resolve several issues related to a construction projec, and present a proposal for managing and constructing the project. Students were asked to prepare and present their proposal to a panel of judges comprised of representatives from all facets of the construction industry.
“The Missouri State students did a great job in preparing for this competition,” said Dr. Neal Callahan, head of the department of technology and construction management. “Missouri State has an excellent program as this first place win demonstrates.”
The department of technology and construction management has the largest construction management program in the state.
