Three Missouri State University programs recently received funding to continue serving students.
A minimum of two graduate assistantships in the department of sports medicine and athletic training will be funded by Mercy Sports Medicine annually for students in the kinesiology department. Graduate students will serve as certified athletic trainers and will provide patient care, educational support for MSU Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) undergraduate students and assist with research efforts of Mercy Sports Medicine and MSU sports medicine and athletic training.
The Health Resources and Services Administration has renewed funding for the Nurse Anesthesia Traineeship. The nurse anesthesia program, which includes 35 students, provides hands-on experience in anesthesia as well as thorough in-class lecture. The grant will be used to pay for the tuition of those students who are awarded the traineeship. In 2014 the HRSA will fund 49.7% of the program for a total of $27,337. Non-governmental sources will provide the additional 50.3% for a total of $27,663.
The U.S. Department of Education has renewed funding for TRiO Student Support Services. The funding will cover supplies, event costs, travel and various other expenses. TRiO programs serve participants who are motivated to prepare for, enter and complete postsecondary education. As mandated by Congress, two-thirds of the students served must come from families with incomes under $28,000 and where neither parent graduated from college. The program is 100% funded by the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $280,405.
