Missouri State to award 560 degrees during summer commencement
Missouri State University will confer 560 degrees to students at its 2014 summer commencement. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Aug. 1 at JQH Arena and will feature an address from Missouri State alumnus Jim Anderson, vice president of marketing and public affairs at CoxHealth. The ceremony will be streamed live.
The Missouri State commencement hub features student stories, social media posts, photos and other multimedia experiences that will be updated prior to and during commencement.
About the graduates
A total of 304 bachelor’s degrees, 247 master’s degrees, four specialist degrees and five doctorate degrees will be conferred. Beyond the standard expectations, nine students will be recognized for their work with a more rigorous curriculum in Missouri State’s Honors College. Scholastic honors will be given to six students who will graduate summa cum laude (with grade point average of 3.9-4.0 on a 4.0 scale), nine who will graduate magna cum laude (with a GPA of 3.75-3.89) and 16 who will graduate cum laude (with a GPA of 3.5-3.74).
About the speaker
Anderson is a 1971 graduate of Missouri State University and recently retired from his position as president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Anderson served on numerous state and national committees over his career. During his involvement with the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, he served as its chairman from 1994-95 and received the Chairman’s Professional Leadership Award in 1992. He also served as member of the board of trustees of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management.
