Although a double major in dance and nursing may not be common combination, it is the right combination for Alexandria Grossman. Grossman, a senior from Raymore, received the third and final American Harlequin Scholarship in Support of Dance Science in honor of her passion for science and dance.
The American Harlequin Scholarship for Support of Dance Science is offered via a partnership between the American Harlequin Corporation and Dr. Jim Hackney, assistant professor of physical therapy. It is given to a MSU student involved in dance biomechanics research. For the scholarship, Grossman researched dance movement therapy.
“I learned about the history of DMT [dance movement therapy] and the steps that would be taken to achieve a degree and career in DMT, as well as career possibilities for dance movement therapists,” said Grossman.
Grossman, who has been dancing for 16 years, plans to use her dance major in the future. “My goal in the future is to be a nurse and continue teaching dance classes because I love getting to work with kids and sharing dance with them,” said Grossman.
