Missouri State named a military friendly school
For the third year in a row, Missouri State University was named a military friendly school by Victory Media, the premier media source for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. The 2014 Military Friendly Schools® list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s service members and veterans as students.
The 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.
“We are thrilled to be chosen again as a Military Friendly School. Recognition like this from a national publication affirms Missouri State’s mission as a public affairs university as well as a university that truly understands, values and honors military and veteran students,” said Jenifer Kautzman, coordinator of veteran student services. “We will continue to fulfill the mission of being military friendly by thoughtfully and resolutely addressing the needs of military students on our campus through our actions, words and policies.”
The office of veteran student services assists service members, guardsmen, reservists and their family members in taking full advantage of all educational benefits available to them, as well as assisting in the transition from active duty to student life at Missouri State. For the fall 2013 semester, approximately 700 veterans and service members, along with 150 dependents, are served by the veteran student services office.
The 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through research and a free, data-driven, survey of more than 10,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The survey results that comprise the 2014 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. This year’s Military Friendly Schools® list criteria also incorporate a survey of over 4,000 actual student veterans.
