Grant for Low Income Tax Clinic renewed

Friday, August 30, 2013

picture s byrd editDr. Sandra Byrd, professor in the School of Accountancy at Missouri State University, received a grant renewal for the Low Income Tax Clinic. The clinic, which offers both controversy and English as a second language (ESL) services, has been helping those in low income households for many years.

“This is the twelfth year we have received the grant, and it allows us to continue offering our students the ability to provide a public service to the local community while using the material learned while working on their Master of Accountancy degree,” stated Byrd.

Besides offering language services, the clinic also provides clients with pro bono legal service, education about their rights and responsibilities as tax payers, and does research and advocates about issues that low income tax payers face. The funding from the grant will go to hiring graduate assistants to work in the clinic and to basic clinic operational needs.

For more information, contact Byrd at (417) 836-4181.
