Culinary educators workshop hosted on campus
The department of hospitality and restaurant administration at Missouri State University hosted a culinary educators workshop on June 5. During this workshop guests covered topics such as restaurant concept development, menu development and pricing, restaurant facility design, and effective restaurant business plan development.
“It takes extensive business skills and creativity to succeed in the restaurant industry. We are pleased that these skills are being introduced to high school students,” said Dr. Stephanie Hein, interim department head at Missouri State University. “We believe it’s our responsibility to be a resource to the high school teachers who introduce these concepts.”
Twenty-two high school faculty members attended this workshop from all across the state including the St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield Metro Areas. This workshop was partially funded with a grant from the Darden Foundation.
“Dr. Hein and I wanted to give the attending faculty members some tools to help make their students successful. If you want to change the future, teach a teacher,” said Melanie Grand, assistant professor for the department of hospitality and restaurant administration.
