University pursues fundraising, volunteer efforts for Moore, Okla., disaster recovery

Thursday, May 23, 2013

bearhug1The Missouri State University community is planning several projects to benefit the Moore, Okla., community.

The Baker Bookstore is selling Bear Hugs for Oklahoma t-shirts to raise money for disaster assistance. The shirts are available in the store or online for $15 each, and $9 from each shirt will be donated to Convoy of Hope. Wise Guys Printing designed and donated the shirts.

In May 2011, Missouri State partnered with Wise Guys Printing to send assistance to those affected by the Joplin tornado, and, at $13 per shirt, the university was able to donate more than $12,000 to those relief efforts through the American Red Cross and Convoy of Hope.

The Center for Leadership and Volunteerism is gathering information on the best ways for students, faculty and staff to mobilize and help the affected community. Opportunities will be posted as they become available in the relief and rebuilding phases.
