Professor receives grant for seismic activity study

Thursday, April 11, 2013

Dr. Kevin Mickus, professor of geography, geology and planning at Missouri State University, received a grant of $28,329 from StatoilHydro Petroleum of Norway, in conjunction with Missouri University of Science and Technology, for his “Comprehensive Analysis of Broadband Seismic Data Recorded in the Afar Depression, Ethiopia.”

According to Mickus, the structure of the Afar Depression in Africa will be assessed to help develop a new model for determining how continents break apart to form ocean basins. Knowledge gained from this research will assist scientists in better understanding how petroleum forms in these environments.

For more information, contact Mickus at (417) 836-6375.
