College of Business maintains prestigious business accreditation

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Glass HallThe College of Business and School of Accountancy at Missouri State University have maintained business accreditation by AACSB International –The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

The Missouri State College of Business is one of the largest business programs in the Midwest region and includes four departments (computer information systems, finance and general business, management and marketing) along with the School of Accountancy in the business unit, as well as two separately-accredited departments (fashion and interior design, and construction and technology management) that are outside of the unit.

College of Business Dean Stephanie Bryant is pleased that the college received continued distinguished recognition. “The hallmark of our programs is the personal touch we provide, allowing us to give each student individual attention,” she said. “Despite being one of the largest business programs in the Midwest, we are able to keep class sizes small and provide individual advisement. I strongly believe that the learning environment we have created is exceptional.”

The business unit prepares more than 4,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate students for a wide spectrum of business and related careers. The School of Accountancy offers a bachelor’s degree program, where students blend courses in accounting with business ethics, as well as a Master’s of Accountancy program, with specializations in forensic accounting and tax accounting.

“This is a great accomplishment for the College of Business and truly sets this college apart from other programs,” said Missouri State President Clifton M. Smart III.  “I commend Dean Bryant and all of the college’s faculty and staff.”

Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting. AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by fewer than 5 percent of the world’s business programs.

Today, there are more than 650 business schools in 45 countries and territories that maintain AACSB Accreditation. Similarly, 178 institutions maintain an additional specialized AACSB Accreditation for their accounting programs.
