Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax preparation
Missouri State University runs a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to prepare and file tax returns for qualified individuals.
VITA, established by the Internal Revenue Service, is designed to assist taxpayers with their current year tax return preparation. The VITA services are free to qualifying individuals — taxpayers with income of less than $51,000, older adults and individuals who speak English as a second language (ESL).
Dr. Sandra Byrd, coordinator of the public service tax clinics at Missouri State, discusses VITA and some changes and updates to this year’s tax law and procedures.
