Employees, retirees honored; staff service awards given

During the Jan. 9 Staff Service Awards programs, Missouri State University announced the two winners of its Staff Excellence in Community Service Award, announced the six winners of its Staff Excellence in University Service Award, honored the 27 employees from the Springfield campus who retired in 2012 and recognized 213 employees from the Springfield campus who reached a 5-year longevity milestone in 2012.

The university recognized two employees with the Excellence in Community Service Award – which is awarded based on demonstrated personal action to community causes, a significant and sustained record of volunteer service and significant contributions to improve the quality of community life. The winners received a personalized plaque and a $1,000 cash award from the Missouri State University Foundation.

The Excellence in Community Service Award recipients are Anne Baker, library archivist; and Tina McManus, director of accounting and budgeting.

The Staff Excellence in University Service Award was presented to six Missouri State staff members in recognition of significant contributions to the university community. The awards recognize those staff employees who strive to do their jobs well on a daily basis, go above and beyond the call of duty in a special situation and have contributed in a significant way to the success of the university. The recipients each received a $1,500 cash award.

The six employees who were recognized include Dennis Erfling, maintenance technician; Deana Gibson, administrative assistant III in the geography, geology and planning department; Tamara Reed, senior internal auditor; Sheryl Ruff-Hensley, administrative assistant in the marketing department, Rogers Taylor, student life and development coordinator in West Plains Student Services; and Darren Wienberg, academic adviser.

26 staff members retire in 2012

The 26 staff members who retired in 2012 represent almost 455 years of combined service to the university and an average of 17 years of individual service. Staff retirees from the Springfield campus include:

Also recognized were Missouri State employees who had achieved a 5-year longevity milestone — from five to 40 years of service.

The longest serving employee is Burnie Snodgrass, Taylor Health and Wellness Clinic, with 40 years of service.
