During a season of cookie-baking and candy-making, eating healthy can often be an afterthought. Natalie Allen, clinical instructor in the dietetics program at Missouri State University, believes that putting healthy, family-friendly meals on the table doesn’t have to be a chore.

Meals, like sweet and spicy chicken, can be the key to success as they follow many of Allen’s recommendations for cooking healthy: “The great thing about this meal is it’s low in fat, you can alter the carbohydrates to meet your needs, it’s high in lean protein and it has vegetables. It meets all the requirements we like to look for in a meal and its pretty balanced. And it’s easy to make.”

Watch Allen prepare her family’s favorite meal as she shares simple ways to cook healthy meals the whole family will enjoy.
