Board of Governors honors student Fulbright Scholar
Graduate student Jacob Singleton will be spotlighted by the Missouri State University Board of Governors during its regular meeting Aug. 3. Dr. Kathleen Kennedy, head of the history department, will join him for the recognition.
Singleton, a graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in European history, was recently awarded a U.S. Student Fulbright award to Germany for 2012-2013. While there, he will also participate in an English teaching assistantship in Sachsen-Anhalt.
The Fulbright Scholar program was designed to immerse individuals into the cultures they are studying and allow for individualized research projects.
“Ultimately, it is my goal to serve as a cultural ambassador within the community that I will be living and working in,” said Singleton.
Singleton holds a bachelor’s degree in German and in history education.
“History, particularly German history, has interested me since childhood and the ability to study the German language upon becoming a university student not only made historical inquiry a possibility, but was also an immense joy in itself,” said Singleton. “I chose to pursue education because it best suited my passion for working with and helping people.”
Eligible students endure a rigorous year-long application process with final selection by a presidentially-appointed Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
