Diversity, communications trainer Lee Mun Wah to speak
Acclaimed lecturer and master diversity and communications trainer Lee Mun Wah will speak and present two workshops and a film Feb. 23 on the Missouri State University and Drury University campuses.
Lee Mun Wah is an internationally-renowned Chinese American documentary filmmaker, author, poet, Asian folk teller, educator, community therapist and master diversity trainer. For more than 25 years he was a resource specialist and counselor in the San Francisco Unified School District. He later became a consultant to private schools, working with students who had severe learning and behavioral issues.
Four events are planned for Feb. 23:
- Keynote address: “What Stands Between Us?” from 8-9 a.m. in the Plaster Student Union theater. This event is free and open to the public.
- Student dialogue groups: “A Cross Gender/Race Conversation” from 9-11 a.m. in the Plaster Student Union West Ballroom. The event is open to students.
- Faculty/staff training: “Diversity Conversations in the Classroom” from 1-5 p.m. in Duane G. Meyer Library, Room 101. The event is open to faculty and staff.
- Film Showing: “Last Chance for Eden” from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in Lay Hall Auditorium on the Drury University Campus. This event is free and open to the public.
“As a follow-up to previous cultural competence activities in Springfield, we are very fortunate to have Lee Mun Wah come to our community for a variety of training events,” said Dr. Leslie Anderson, former interim vice president for diversity and inclusion and organizer of the events. “This is a rare opportunity to meet and work with one of the premier diversity trainers in the nation. All who participate in this day of programming are certain to be enriched as a result.”
Lee Mun Wah is currently the executive director of Stirfry Seminars & Consulting, a diversity training company that provides educational tools and workshops on issues pertaining to cross-cultural communication and awareness, mindful facilitation, and conflict mediation techniques.
