During its Jan. 11 Staff Service Awards programs, Missouri State University announced the two winners of its Staff Excellence in Community Service Award, announced the six winners of its Staff Excellence in University Service Award, honored the 86 employees from the Springfield campus who retired in 2011 and recognized 191 employees from the Springfield campus who reached a 5-year longevity milestone in 2011.

Two honored for community contributions

The university recognized two employees with the Excellence in Community Service Award – which is awarded based on demonstrated personal action to community causes, a significant and sustained record of volunteer service and significant contributions to improve the quality of community life. The winners received a personalized plaque and a $1,000 cash award from the Missouri State University Foundation.

The Excellence in Community Service Award recipients are Joe Kammerer, assistant director of development on the West Plains campus; and Katheryne Staeger-Wilson, director of the Disability Resource Center on the Springfield campus.

Six honored for service to university

The Staff Excellence in University Service Award was presented to six Missouri State staff members in recognition of significant contributions to the university community. The awards recognize those staff employees who strive to do their jobs well on a daily basis, go above and beyond the call of duty in a special situation, and have contributed in a significant way to the success of the university. The recipients each received a $1,500 cash award.

The six employees who were recognized include Donna Bassham, coordinator of financial aid on the West Plains campus; Michael Frizell, director of student learning services; Ann Fuhrman, United Nations librarian; Don Simpson, assistant vice president for enrollment management; Katheryne Staeger-Wilson, director of the Disability Resource Center; and Angie Strider, coordinator for leadership development and programming for residence life and services.
